Spotlight on SELFDEFENSE-4-WOMEN.COM

May 14, 2009

At DefendWell.com, we’re always doing our part to stay on top of the tips and techniques that matter most for your safety. This hunt often leads us to really informative sites and blogs, one of which is SELFDEFENSE-4-WOMEN.COM. Primarily targeted to women, by a woman, this site also offers great suggestions for Self Defense For Children, as well as an array of articles that are helpful for any reader, male and female alike. One of my personal favorites is her section on Psychic Self Defense, or Intuition. This deals with not only trusting our feelings, but recognizing more concrete warning signs that all is not well. This feature is a must-read for every woman, but especially those who are more fearful they are being unnecessarily mean to someone they get a bad vibe from than they are fearful for their safety.

The site is wonderfully well-rounded, providing extensive information about everything from Martial Arts to Home Security. Articles are also very well-written, which is a huge determining factor in whether I decide to stay awhile at a site, or move along! The site is clearly designed at every turn to provide high-quality information in an easy-to-understand manner – what a self-defense site should be. So many blogs and sites I’ve come across are primarily angry ‘look how cool I am’ rants about kicking criminals in the teeth. That doesn’t help anyone. SELFDEFENSE-4-WOMEN.COM does – and I hope you find it as fantastic a resource as I do.

May 5, 2009

Nowadays, reports of burglaries spread through the news like viruses. Perhaps they’re the result of living in desperate times, or perhaps they’re due to old-fashioned greed, but regardless of why these despicable acts take place, they reveal something critical about the world: the threat of criminal violence is very real, even in our own homes.

You need to feel safe at home, and at DefendWell.com, we sell protection in just about every medium. Avoiding encounters with burglars is ideal, and our wide selection of alarms will have them running scared before they have a chance to harm you or your loved ones. If you do come face to face with an intruder, however, it helps to have some kind of non-lethal weapon on hand, such as a stun gun or pepper spray. This way, you’ll be able to subdue him or her and call for help. You may also be interested in some of our instructional fighting DVDs, the lessons of which can be useful in the event that no weapons are available.

Camera Captures Florida Burglars

Apr 15, 2009

In Florida, a woman has recently done her part to preserve justice in her community.

Using a web cam, Jeanne Thomas captured two men in the act of robbing her home. After logging into her web cam feed from her Keiser University office, Thomas discovered that two men had made themselves right at home.

”It was the strangest feeling,” Thomas said of the incident in an interview with the Palm Beach Post. “I had a feeling something wasn’t right. When I went on, I saw a person standing in my house.”

While watching the men gather up her family’s belongings, Thomas contacted police and within minutes, 18 officers had surrounded her home and the robbers inside.

”You could see them on the video freaking out,” said Thomas, who installed the camera after going other robberies. “They darted around the house trying to figure out how to get out.”

Homeowners, like Thomas, already know how important it is to protect their belongings. To deliver the extra security that helped to catch two criminals in Florida, install a surveillance system from DefendWell.com in your home. Don’t Overlook Unarmed Defense

Mar 25, 2009

When it comes to self-defense, people are most immediately concerned with acquiring weapons, most of which are easy to operate and require little training. However, it’s important to note that there are certain risks associated with their use. Weapons are easily lost, and worse yet, misusing them can result in unwarranted injury to others or oneself. So, it might also behoove one to study the art of unarmed combat, a method of protection on which one can count if weapons are not an option.

At DefendWell.com, we want our customers to feel safe regardless of the circumstance, and that’s why we offer focus training materials in addition to weaponry. Check out 5 Second to Live or Die, a comprehensive DVD set that will teach you to act fast in volatile situations. A method of target focus training (TFT), the techniques described in this series are based solely on inherent motor skills, not athletic abilities, so once you master them, they’ll never leave you.

The threat of criminal violence is always present, so having a fail-safe counter method doesn’t hurt. DefendWell.com can help, so stop by our shop and start feeling safer today.

Defend Yourself While Enjoying the Outdoors

Mar 20, 2009

Springtime is here, so it’s important to start thinking about your safety as you enjoy the great outdoors again after the long winter chill. As you begin to plan your hiking trips, jogging route, or your new spot to enjoy Frisbee, be sure to take into account your own safety. An incident can occur at any time and you need to be prepared to defend yourself should you have to.

When walking or jogging alone in a park or though your neighborhood, try to arm yourself with a discreet protective device, like Pepper Spray, as an effective deterrent. Your attacker will remained stunned as you spray a powerful pepper mixture into his face, rendering him unable to continue pursuit. Once you’ve got him subdued, look for help at the first turn.

If you choose to hike, fish, or camp, think about equipping yourself with something that’s a bit more powerful. As a defense item, tasers and stun guns may prove to be the best method for stopping an attack in the great outdoors. Stash one in your pocket or back pack as an effective protection device.

Cardiologist Offers Taser Tips

Mar 13, 2009

Dr. Zian Tseng, an assistant professor in medicine at the University of California at San Francisco recently gave three tips to local law enforcement agencies regarding methods of reducing taser related deaths. Stressing that police officers should be made of aware of fatal consequences of using tasers, Tseng said that the high-voltage weapon has “almost zero” effect on the heart if it is not fired on a person’s chest area.

“The vector over the heart is very important,” he said. “So one practical recommendation would be is if it’s possible to avoid tasering the chest.”

Tseng said that it has been shown that the more times a police officer pulls the trigger of a taser, the longer that electrical pulses course through the recipient’s body. This increases the risk of the pulses “capturing the heart and affecting the heart rhythm”, he said.

Therefore, his second recommendation is that police officers should ease up on the trigger.

“If you knew that the taser could potentially kill, obviously you wouldn’t pull it out as quickly as if you thought it was completely safe,” said Tseng in a recent media interview.

Tseng’s third recommendation is for police squads carrying tasers to be equipped with automated external defibrillators that can be used to revive a person who has been shocked with the weapon and suffered a cardiac arrest.

“These are very easy to obtain, they’re relatively inexpensive, and, in my opinion, if a police agency is using the taser, they should have the defibrillator available in case a cardiac arrest happens,” Tseng said.

To law enforcement agents everywhere: practice safe tasering tactics in order to reduce the amount of damage to an attacker while still delivering the protection you need in self-defense.
